Value Statement:

To conduct high value contract research in the area of laser materials processing for our regional and national customers.  Research will focus on the latest laser technologies, monitoring and control techniques, and how processes/procedures can be implemented into industry.

CCAT’s Laser Applications Laboratory (LAL) was established to address the special needs of the US Air Force and jet engine manufacturers.  As a result, CCAT’s LAL is a unique facility that can accomplish contract research in the area laser materials processing for industrial and government customers for not only aerospace but any industry.

The LAL has the ability to accomplish process development building off its state-of-the-art equipment and knowledgeable personnel.  The equipment at the LAL ranges from the latest in laser technologies as well as industrialized equipment and support equipment.   This allows the LAL staff to investigate new processes, develop techniques for improving production, and produce procedures for prototype components.  This work is being funded by engine manufacturers, their suppliers, and government agencies.  Services that the LAL team provides include:

·         Evaluate Current and Next Generation Lasers (and Workcells) for Use in Manufacturing and Biomedical Applications

·         Provide information on the potential application of lasers to solve manufacturing, repair and overhaul problems

·         Conduct laser materials process development and assist in implementation in the areas of drilling, welding, additive manufacturing (cladding), marking, cutting, machining, coating removal, surface modification and localized heat treatment

·         Assist schools (K through Graduate School) in furthering education related to lasers and their uses

·         Sponsor undergraduate and graduate level internships

·         Host Professional Society meetings (Laser Institute of America, American Welding Society, Society of Automotive Engineers) and Workshops

·         Assist Small Businesses in SBIR/STTR proposal submissions and execution

·         Networking Resource

·         Beta Site Resource (for equipment/workcell/software testing)

In addition to accomplishing contract research and other services; CCAT holds the Symposium for Advanced Laser Applications (SALA).  The two day conference presents the latest in laser technologies from researchers, equipment builders, and end users.
